NEWTON WATERWORKS TREATS ABOUT 4.1-MILLION GALLONS OF WATER PER DAY, BUT MOST OF IT IS USED OUTSIDE OF TOWN. WATERWORKS MANAGER LD PALMER SAYS 56-PERCENT OF THE WATER IS SOLD TO CENTRAL IOWA WATER ASSOCIATION.

THE NEWTON BOARD OF EDUCATION HAS ADOPTED A BUDGET FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. BUT IT AND THE TAX LEVY RATE WILL NEED TO BE ADJUSTED ONCE STATE LEGISLATORS DECIDE HOW MUCH ADDITIONAL STATE AID THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN 2015-2016.
