Extra law enforcement officers will be out this holiday weekend…monitoring drivers. Trooper Doug Cutts with the Iowa State Patrol says traffic will be especially busy tomorrow around Ames and Iowa City, due to home college football games.

09/04/15 Newton Woman Charged With O-W-I And Child Endangerment


A 34 year old Newton woman is accused of driving under the influence of marijuana last night, with her two children. Dabreshia Denice Barnes is being held in the Jasper County jail pending her initial court appearance this afternoon. 

09/04/15 Local United Way Begins Annual Fundraising Campaign


The United Way of Jasper County has kicked-off it’s annual fundraising campaign. United Way Executive Director Jessica Lowe says they hope to take in more money than last year.

A missing 76 year old Colfax woman was found safe in northwest Missouri last night. According to Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty…Karen Schlosser was found around 10:30 in Rockport Missouri.

There was another good turn-out for last night’s annual “Thanks With Franks” on the Newton square. Thousands of free hot dogs served different ways were consumed, and there was other activities and entertainment.

A 27 year old Newton woman has been fined in connection with an altercation that involved a knife. Vanessa Marie Chavez-Hutton was originally charged with 1st degree harassment. But she pled guilty to a lesser disorderly conduct charge.

Hillary Clinton is scheduled to be in Newton this weekend. Clinton will have a closed to the public and media meeting with AFSCME Union members at 1p.m. Sunday. The meeting will be held at DMACC.

The Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society is looking for volunteers. Sarah Siperstein, the shelter director, says volunteers can do a variety of tasks. 

09/03/15 Newton Man Given Jail Time For Driving While Drugged


A 52 year old Newton man has been sentenced to 10 days in jail for driving while under the influence of drugs. Neil Edward Carr also has to pay a 1-thousand 250-dollar fine and complete a DMACC driving under the influence class.

09/03/15 Colfax Man Pleads Not Guilty To Red Rock Marina Theft


A 43 year old Colfax man accused of stealing equipment and a vehicle from a building near Red Rock Marina, has pled not guilty. Chad Cheek is charged with 2nd degree theft.

A Jasper County jury has found a 54 year old Newton woman guilty of public intoxication. The verdict against Patti Lee Gardner followed a 1-day trial. Gardner was arrested over a year ago.
