The Iowa House has rejected a Senate amendment that would have reopened the Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo.

Alliant Energy has gotten the final green light in its bid to build a new gas-fired power plant.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has approved the air permit.
Alliant Energy spokesman Ryan Stensland called it a great day for Marshalltown and the state of Iowa…and says construction should begin later this summer.
The new plant will replace the current, coal-fired plant at a cost

4/14/14 RURAL MARSHALLTOWN HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE


A rural Marshalltown home was destroyed by a fast-moving fire Friday evening.

The fire started in the garage at about 4:45 p.m. and spread to the home on Taylor Avenue southeast of Marshalltown. Nobody has hurt.

Several fire departments responded to the blaze. Haverhill Fire Chief Dick Stalzer says he isn’t sure how the fire started.
